West Loop

All About West Loop

A former warehouse district transformed into “loft style” condo, luxury apartment living and the Chicago foodie haven. Welcome to the West Loop, bordered by the Chicago River on the East, The Eisenhower expressway on the South, Ashland Avenue on the West and Grand Avenue going North.

History
In the early 1800’s, while taking a stroll through what is now referred to as the West Loop, from dawn to dusk, the hustle and bustle of warehouses, factories and their workers would be heard. Operating largely as a production and housing area for commerce in the city, the location brought many immigrants to the city looking for opportunities to work. People from similar backgrounds stuck together and formed sub-neighborhoods that are still present in the west loop like, Little Italy and Greektown.

Current
With a dynamic shift in the neighborhoods makeup, former factories and warehouses have been converted into “loft style” condominium living. Aggressive, upstart restaurateurs have flocked to the West Loop in droves creating Chicago’s “Restaurant Row” along Randolph Street. The Restaurant Row food hounds have made their way to the West Loop to sample the fare from the restaurant boom. Many tech companies have also targeted the West Loop as their Chicago hubs. Google has created a renovated masterpiece in the West Loop for their Chicago offices with a beautiful mix of former factory and contemporary finishes.

Attractions
With unique lofts and beautiful luxury apartments, the West Loop increases it’s number of residents on a yearly basis. How can we not talk about Restaurant Row again? Stephanie Izard’s, Girl and the Goat and Little Goat top many hungry chow hounds list of top restaurants in the city. Green Street Smoked Meats bring delicious “lunch room” style Texas barbecue to the neighborhood. There are countless other restaurant options that provide unique and truly fulfilling dining experiences in the West Loop from Sushi, to bakeries. Make sure to stop into the fast paced French market off of Clinton Street, a regular lunch spot for people working in the Loop and the West Loop. If you’re eager to root on the Chicago Bulls and Chicago Blackhawks the United Center is just West of Ashland.
